After 4 years as a credit rating analyst with ICRA, he moved to Kotak Securities as a banking analyst at the time when Indian banks were being listed on the stock exchanges. At HSBC Securities he covered banks, NBFCs, and later, as Head of Research, the India Strategy product as well. During the 2000s he was responsible for advising the buy-side institutional analysts and portfolio managers across the globe on their investments in Indian equities. After HSBC, he worked with Avendus Securities to set up their institutional equities business and later, with Tata Securities. At Tata Capital, he was the Head of Corporate Research and set up the Competition Intelligence function.
